Bakesale Betty

Image from Bakesale Betty

Location: Oakland Ca
Atmosphere: Very Casual
Menu: Sandwiches, salads and baked goods
Meal: Lunch
Price: Moderate $$
Score: Allup in mah face!

Located in Oakland Ca on the corner of Telegraph Ave and 51st. The owners are Alison Barakat, worked as a chef at Chez Panisse for 2 years after coming to the states from Australia, and her husband Micheal Camp who, like Alison, sold baked goods in the Danville Farmers Market where they both met. Bakesale Betty is known for their baked goods such as pies and cookies, but more so for the most desired sandwich in Oakland, the Fried Chicken Sandwich.  The Location is for pick ups mainly, but Betty has cute ironing board tables with stools outside so you can take your brown bag lunch and sit and eat. Opened for lunch only, Tuesday-Saturday from 12pm-2pm but come early. The line can get pretty long and its possible you will miss out on this heavenly sandwich.

The proof is in the line formed outside each day.
Its a must try!

The menu is simple, fresh local ingredients, usually consisting of 5 different lunch items which include sandwiches, a salad, a slushy lemonade and a variety of baked goods which can be different each time depending on the season. The Fried Chicken Sandwich is the most wanted from the menu. It's made and pushed out quickly by the Bakesale Betty employees everyday. The sandwich reminds me of a Po Boy... but let me tell you, there ain't nothin "Po" about this boy...

Its a battered then fried chicken breast put into a fresh Acme torpedo roll, with a crunchy, spicy coleslaw that's tossed in a tangy vinaigrette. Sure to please those taste buds!

Go give your taste buds the time of their lives and try the Bakesale Betty Fried Chicken Sandwich!

Go on, Don't you want a bite?
